Thomas Edison's 1910 adaptation of Mary Shelly's 1818 novel, Frankenstein, was Cinema's FIRST FRANKENSTEIN FILM. Charles Ogle played The Monster and Augustus Phillips played The Doctor. It is also the first true creation film. Frankenstein films that followed assembled body parts from cadavers to make their monsters. F.W. Murnau's 1922 version of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula was Cinema's FIRST Vampire Film. This 1922 film was titled Nosferatu which means "The Undead" since the name DRACULA was under copyright by Braum Stoker's estate. In the film, Max Schreck played The Vampire, who has been considered Cinema's ugliest and most foreboding vampire to date. These two films were the genesis of Monster and Horror films that followed.
It is noteworthy that the 1910 Edison Frankenstein Film was the FIRST film to be publicly banned shortly after its release March 18, 1910. Newspapers reported the film as weird and "UN-GODLY" .. "Man Creating Man" . Theater owners refused to show this blasphemous film.
